2020 Year in Review

As we come to the end of this extraordinary year, it is hard to even imagine our lives as they were last year at this time. With all that has happened in 2020, it is amazing how much there is to be grateful for in our office. The Coronavirus pandemic has shown us how strong and resilient we are as a team. We have adapted and adjusted and learned together and found a whole new way to offer high quality dental care to our patients as safely as possible.

We are also thankful for our BDS patients and all the trust they have placed in our ability to keep them safe in their dental appointments with us. Our safety protocols met the highest standards before the mandatory shut-down back in the spring. We spent April and May establishing Covid protocols training, and integrating all the new PPE we would need to protect ourselves and patients when they came back into the office. Patients were calm and willing to wait in their cars, take prescreening questionnaires, and be flexible with all the changes we needed to make. We also quickly realized how knowledgeable BDS patients are about the importance of preventive dental care for overall health, immunity, and wellness!

In spite of the pandemic, we have added and expanded technology and treatment in the office this year including smile makeovers with Invisalign. Wearing a mask makes this actually an ideal time to do orthodontic treatment! New digital scanning technology is being utilized to enhance diagnostics with digital impressions. We provide Botox therapy for TMJ, pain, and migraine management which has become much more prevalent, caused by the extra stress in people’s lives due to the virus. Additional weekend hours, added when we re-opened in June, have made dental care in our practice even more accessible and convenient.

Who knows what 2021 will bring? We will face new challenges, and hopefully, overcome all that the virus has impacted our lives. What we do know is that together, as a team we can handle it. We will continue to innovate and evolve and strive to be the very best we can be for our patients. We wish you and your family safety and good health, and look forward to seeing you in the new year!

Sincerely,
Dr. Ghavamian and the BDS Team

Periodontal Care in Our Practice

Dr. Yong Hur

We are pleased to introduce Dr. Yong Hur to our BDS team! He is a graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where he received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine, Periodontal certification, and a Master of Science. Dr. Hur, as our dental implant specialist, collaborates closely with our general dentists and clinical team to plan optimal periodontal care and implant dentistry for our patients.

Periodontology is a specialty in the field of dentistry dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, and in the placement of dental implants. Offering periodontal care in our practice gives our patients access to expert treatment of oral inflammation, gum disease, and dental implantology. A periodontist receives extensive training in these areas and three additional years of education beyond dental school.

Periodontal Care

Periodontitis is a common and preventable condition caused by a bacterial inflammation of the gums called “gingivitis.” When left untreated periodontitis can lead to tooth loss and is a risk factor for more serious health conditions. Symptoms include swollen, red, and tender gums. Dr. Hur will evaluate your condition and then develop a maintenance plan that is right for managing your gum health. Our clinical team can perform scaling and root planing in the office and then help you optimize a home care routine that is best for you.

Dental Implants

If you are missing a tooth due to an injury or periodontal disease, then you may be a good candidate for a dental implant. Dental implants replace the tooth root in your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or crown. The dental implant and final crown are designed to look, feel, and function exactly like your natural teeth. Periodontists are the dental experts who have specialized training in this area of dentistry. Working with our general dentists, Dr. Hur can collaborate, plan, and place your implant and the final restoration right here in our office. No need for referrals in another location!

CBCT 3D X-ray Technology

CBCTWe have invested in the latest technology in our office to give our doctors the most advanced diagnostic tools available. A dental CBCT is a specialized type of x-ray that uses computer tomography to create three-dimensional, or 3D, images. All of the specialists and general dentists in our practice utilize digital technology to evaluate, diagnose, and plan optimal treatment options for our patients.

The CBCT scanner can create highly detailed 3-D images of teeth, soft tissues, nerve paths, and bone which include considerably more information for diagnoses than conventional two-dimensional dental x-rays. The scan is comfortable for you and simple for our team to take. It can capture images of both bone and soft tissue at the same time. The CBCT scans are used in our practice to create a treatment plan for accurate placement of dental implants, some cases of orthodontic evaluation, surgical planning for the removal of impacted wisdom teeth, and in complex endodontic cases for root canal diagnostics and treatment planning.
