2021 Year in Review

3d printing at brookline dentalOver the past year, as the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to affect our community, we remain committed to providing our BDS patients with the safest, most advanced dental care possible. While always mindful of maintaining the highest level of prescribed safety precautions, we have also invested in some of the latest dental technologies available to integrate into our practice. Although 2021 may not have been the return to the “normal” we all hoped for, we are committed to providing the safest, high-quality, cutting-edge dentistry for our valued patients, both new and old.

In addition to all of the physical safety measures we have already in place, this year we expanded our evening and weekend hours. These extra appointment options have allowed us to limit the number of patients in the office at one time while also accommodating people’s busy schedules. Your safety is of utmost importance to us and you to feel secure in the knowledge that you are in good hands when you come into the office for your dental care.

dentist and patient looking at xrayWe are excited to be utilizing iTero digital scanning technology for both preventive diagnostics at routine hygiene appointments and for more advanced treatments, like Invisalign clear aligner therapy and dental implant surgery. We can plan your entire treatment and show you the outcome on the scanner before you even start. Scanning with Itero is painless and fast; you can see the digital model of your teeth in just minutes! We are using these precise digital models to customize your treatment plan for restorative and cosmetic dental needs.

Vivera retainers protect the beautiful results of your Invisalign treatment and are individually customized, ensuring a perfect fit. These comfortable-to-wear retainers are created by taking digital impressions of your mouth, which means that lost or broken retainers can be easily replaced without the time and hassle of traditional impressions and molds. Vivera retainers ensure that beautifully aligned teeth last and are a modern, convenient retainer option for many orthodontic patients.

3d printerOur entire clinical team was trained in October to utilize the new 3D printing system we have added to our lab in the office. We can now print night guards, sleep appliances, digital impressions of your teeth, and surgical guides in house. Eliminating the need to involve a third-party lab in these cases improves the control we have over quality and dramatically improves the convenience we can offer our patients with in house printing!

In December, we added Rectangle touch-less payment options for our patients. Rectangle eliminates the need to have a team member swipe a card and capture a signature. With Rectangle, you only have to place a card near the reader and go. Rectangle also eliminates the hassle of paper billing with text and email payment options. Unpaid balances can be paid directly from a computer or smartphone via a secure link. Less time at the checkout desk is both time efficient and safer for both patients and the BDS team. We now have a convenient link on our website for online payment as well!

As we look forward to 2022, Brookline Dental Specialists remains committed to our core practice philosophy: every patient is special! It is our aim to continue to provide our patients with a dental experience that is safe, convenient, and utilizes the most current dental tools available. As a multi-specialty practice, we are able to address a wide range of dental issues in one office, for all ages. From first cleanings and braces to cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry, dental implants, comprehensive periodontal care, to restorative care, our practice is ready and able to handle all of your family’s dental needs. We always welcome new patients and look forward to seeing you in the new year!

Periodontal Care in Our Practice

Dr. Yong Hur

We are pleased to introduce Dr. Yong Hur to our BDS team! He is a graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where he received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine, Periodontal certification, and a Master of Science. Dr. Hur, as our dental implant specialist, collaborates closely with our general dentists and clinical team to plan optimal periodontal care and implant dentistry for our patients.

Periodontology is a specialty in the field of dentistry dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, and in the placement of dental implants. Offering periodontal care in our practice gives our patients access to expert treatment of oral inflammation, gum disease, and dental implantology. A periodontist receives extensive training in these areas and three additional years of education beyond dental school.

Periodontal Care

Periodontitis is a common and preventable condition caused by a bacterial inflammation of the gums called “gingivitis.” When left untreated periodontitis can lead to tooth loss and is a risk factor for more serious health conditions. Symptoms include swollen, red, and tender gums. Dr. Hur will evaluate your condition and then develop a maintenance plan that is right for managing your gum health. Our clinical team can perform scaling and root planing in the office and then help you optimize a home care routine that is best for you.

Dental Implants

If you are missing a tooth due to an injury or periodontal disease, then you may be a good candidate for a dental implant. Dental implants replace the tooth root in your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or crown. The dental implant and final crown are designed to look, feel, and function exactly like your natural teeth. Periodontists are the dental experts who have specialized training in this area of dentistry. Working with our general dentists, Dr. Hur can collaborate, plan, and place your implant and the final restoration right here in our office. No need for referrals in another location!

CBCT 3D X-ray Technology

CBCTWe have invested in the latest technology in our office to give our doctors the most advanced diagnostic tools available. A dental CBCT is a specialized type of x-ray that uses computer tomography to create three-dimensional, or 3D, images. All of the specialists and general dentists in our practice utilize digital technology to evaluate, diagnose, and plan optimal treatment options for our patients.

The CBCT scanner can create highly detailed 3-D images of teeth, soft tissues, nerve paths, and bone which include considerably more information for diagnoses than conventional two-dimensional dental x-rays. The scan is comfortable for you and simple for our team to take. It can capture images of both bone and soft tissue at the same time. The CBCT scans are used in our practice to create a treatment plan for accurate placement of dental implants, some cases of orthodontic evaluation, surgical planning for the removal of impacted wisdom teeth, and in complex endodontic cases for root canal diagnostics and treatment planning.

If you are interested in learning more about the specialized periodontal care and treatment we offer in our office, along with general and other specialized dental services, be sure to give us a call!

Brookline Dental Specialists is a multi-specialty practice which means our doctors can do every step of your procedure right here in our Brookline facility without ever having to refer you to another office.

Same Day Teeth

Many of our patients are excellent candidates for a same-day procedure. You get a new set of teeth in just one visit! 4-6 dental implants are placed in your jaw and then a temporary denture is attached to the dental implants. After healing, you will receive new permanent, custom-made teeth that look and feel exactly like your natural teeth.

A New Smile

Every patient has a unique story, and their own vision and set of goals for their implant restoration. We partner each patient to achieve the vision they have for their smile. An accidental fall damaged this patient’s teeth. She had a special event to attend in a month and wanted the damage corrected in time! that they had a special event to attend. Dental implants and a full arch of new teeth were placed in one day and this patient went home with her smile restored and ready to attend her special family event.
