BDS: Specialty Pediatric Dentistry
At BDS, we are parents as well as dentists, so we understand the importance you place on the health of your children’s smiles. That is why one of the most important dental specialties we offer is pediatric dentistry!
Our pediatric dentist, Dr. Mary Ghattas, is one of the top practitioners in her field. A graduate of the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, she completed her doctorate in dental medicine and then went on to complete a specialty training program in pediatric dentistry. In addition, she has hospital privileges to practice pediatric sedation dentistry at Franciscan Children’s Hospital in Brighton, MA.
With her years of training and experience in pediatric dentistry, you can trust that your children are in good hands when they come in to see Dr. Ghattas for a routine exam or dental treatment. A mother of young children herself, Dr. Ghattas understands every child’s unique dental needs!
Having a uniquely qualified pediatric dental specialist like Dr. Ghattas means we can offer your children a wide range of dental services. From routine cleanings to pediatric dental emergency care, we have your children’s dental needs covered.
We recommend starting routine dental visits from an early age. Proper care and treatment of their baby teeth is just as important as care for their secondary, adult teeth. To help ensure the continuous health of their teeth as they grow, we offer effective preventative care like fluoride treatment and sealants to protect them from decay and cavities.
These preventive treatments as especially important as your children’s adult teeth start to come in, usually at around age 6 or 7. Decay or gum disease that develops early in life can lead to painful dental problems that can compromise the life-long health of their smiles.
Children are often some of the most anxious dental patients. There are several common causes for this anxiety. Young children in particular may have a fear of the unknown if they haven’t ever visited the dentist and are unsure what to expect. Other children may experience sensory overstimulation at the unfamiliar sights and sounds at a dental office.
At BDS, our goal is to make your child’s visit to the dentist a positive and anxiety-free experience. Our gentle and caring staff understand that children can be nervous when visiting the dentist and do all they can to help your child feel at ease.
If your child has a history of extreme dental anxiety, we have options that can still allow them to get the dental care they need. In our office, we offer conscious sedation, also known as nitrous oxide or laughing gas, to help anxious children through dental visits. Conscious sedation with nitrous oxide not only relaxes anxious young patients so they can get needed dental treatment, but it can also ease their overall anxieties about visiting the dentist in the future.
Opting to take your children to a family-friendly, multispecialty practice means that your family can get all their dental care in just a single visit to our office. While your children are with our pediatric dentistry team, the adults in the family can receive the same high-quality dental care they need from our general dentists and dental specialists.
